Students at schools and colleges across Manchester have been picking up their results today after sitting A Level, BTEC, and T Level exams before the summer.

They are amongst the first cohort of students post-pandemic nationally to have sat both their GCSE exams at 16 under 'normal' exam arrangements following Covid, as well as their exams this summer.

Councillor Julie Reid, Executive Member for Early Years, Children and Young People said: "Well done to all students in Manchester who have picked up their results today - you should be very proud of your achievements.

"It's important to remember that today is not just about A Level results. BTECS have for so long now been a brilliant choice for so many of our students here in Manchester and have really helped them along their chosen path Post-18 into higher education, training or employment.

"Whether you sat A Levels, BTECs, T Levels, or any other qualifications, the amount of effort and sheer hard work it takes first of all to really commit to your courses for two years and then to prepare for and sit your exams or complete your coursework, is exactly the same regardless of which pathway you follow.

"A big thank you must also go to all the teachers and other staff in our schools and colleges for their commitment and support in helping our young people towards success - they couldn't do this without you."

Results day this year has been particularly significant on a personal level for Jackie Fahey, outgoing Principal of Whalley Range High School.  It has been the last results day she has got to spend with her sixth form students, ahead of her retirement in a couple of weeks' time, following a 35-year career in teaching - the last ten years of which have been in Manchester.

She said: "I'm very proud of the hard work, resilience and commitment that our students have demonstrated during their time in school, punctuated as it has been for them by the pandemic. Their exam results are testament to these efforts. Working with our students over the years has been an absolute privilege and I wish all of them the very best of luck as they embark upon their new ventures."

Whilst all the indications are that the majority of students in the city who picked up their results today will have achieved what they needed to pursue their planned next steps - whether that is to university, into an apprenticeship, further training, or employment, help and support is there for all those students who didn't achieve what they were hoping for.

Councillor Julie Reid said: "For all those students whose results today might not have been what they hoped for, the most important thing is not to panic and don't think you are the only one.  Thousands of students every year find themselves in this very same position, but with the right guidance they find their way through it and go on to succeed in the future.  Key to this is speaking to staff in your school or college - they're ready and waiting to advise and support you and are very well placed to help you navigate your next steps."

Students in need of help and support after getting their exam results today should speak in the first instance to their school or college, but there are many other sources of help also available including from The Education Hub https://educationhub.blog.gov.uk/

Mental health advice and support for young people who need help with how they are feeling after picking up their results is available from organisations including:
