Roads and transport Consultation phases and results

This consultation is now closed.

We want your feedback on plans to make your area safer and easier to walk and cycle in and a quieter, more attractive place to live.

Parsonage Road Safer Streets will form part of the ‘active neighbourhood’ programme under the Bee Network where the movement, health and safety of people is prioritised over cars.

It’s simply about creating safe, attractive space for people to spend time chatting or for children to play, typically created using planters or bollards to reduce through traffic. The changes also make it easier to get around on foot and by bike.

All these things can have positive effects on air pollution, congestion, residents’ health and wellbeing, and safety on residential streets. This is also about stopping people using residential roads as a cut-through. Residents will still be able to access their homes by car and emergency vehicles will still be able to drive onto the street.

No one knows this area quite like you do, so over the coming months we will be working collaboratively with residents, businesses and schools to create designs to improve local streets.

This project aims to:

  • Create attractive, high quality public spaces for people
  • Empower local people to help with the design of their street
  • Create low traffic areas where people are prioritised over motor traffic, stopping rat running
  • Enable and encourage cycling and walking for short journeys, leaving the car at home Changes can also include improved crossing points, more greenery or seating.

We recognise there have been many recent consultation events in the area such as the Withington Village Framework consultation and Parsonage Road petition from which there was a clear desire for better public space and safer environments for walking and cycling , and we will be using this existing feedback to inform the design process.

We want you to be involved in every stage of this process, so there will be a number of opportunities to give your feedback including online workshops, surveys and design trials.

We will be holding online meetings in the coming months.
