Zero carbon and climate change Ward Climate Change Action Plans

Nature and biodiversity

Across the UK, biodiversity is on the decline. Here in Manchester, some areas have abundant nature while others are seriously lacking. We want to limit the decline and do what we can to enhance existing green spaces in our city.

To do this we have recently released our Green and Blue Infrastructure Strategy. This covers the whole city and sets demanding goals for us. We have also developed the Growing Manchester's Trees tree-capacity study.

There is still plenty that can be done at the local-level, and this is where our Ward Climate Change Action Plans come in.

Aims:

  • Work with all stakeholders to enhance and promote existing green spaces, easily accessible routes, alleyways, promoting nature-based solutions and other approaches to carbon reduction
  • Support residents and Friends Groups for parks / green spaces
