Zero carbon and climate change Ward Climate Change Action Plans

Food

Food is a part of everyone's daily life. But just like everything else we buy, our food and drink choices have a knock-on impact on the environment. The most recent Framework update showed that food can make up to 20% of our total carbon footprint and so, to achieve our Zero Carbon ambition, we must reduce our impact in this area.

The main things we can all do are: reduce food waste, shop locally or grow and eat local and seasonal foods, and reduce our consumption of carbon-intensive foods.

We know we need to do this, and we can all help make it happen.

Aims:

  • Encourage projects and campaigns that seek to reduce food waste and increase access to locally grown foods
  • Help food growing initiatives across the city to thrive
