Homes and property Outcome of selective licensing consultation 2024

Harpurhey: Whiteway Street area

Outcome

We held a ten week consultation from 13 May to 22 July 2024 to find out what good housing means to local people. This information was used to decide if we need a selective licensing scheme in part of Harpurhey. Read more about selective licensing

You can find out more about the background to the proposals by reading the Economy Scrutiny Committee report and minutes using the following link:

After reviewing comments from landlords and residents, we have decided to formally designate a selective licensing area around Whiteway Street in Harpurhey. This means that landlords and managing agents in this specific part of Harpurhey will need a licence to rent out a home. If you are a landlord in the area, you have up to 24 May 2025 to apply for a licence

The scheme aims to improve management standards and conditions of private rented housing and support the reduction of antisocial behaviour – linked to environmental and waste management. For now, we are focusing on this part of Harpurhey. The Whiteway Street area includes around 116 private rented sector homes.
