Roads and transport Parsonage Safer Streets ongoing trial

July update – we need your feedback

The original Parsonage Safer Streets trial, involving filters throughout the East Withington area, was removed earlier this year. However, we still want to meet the original goals of the trial. These are to create streets where people are prioritised over cars. The streets should be safe and attractive. They should also deter people from using residential roads as shortcuts. Residents on some roads supported the trial and felt that it made where they live feel safer.

That is why, instead of returning the area to its pre-trial state, we kept two of the effective filters at Parsonage Road / Wilmslow Road and Burlington Road/Heaton Road. We want people to have their say on the trial of these two filters by completing the survey below.

We are now seeking funding for an alternative scheme. Traffic calming measures may include raised tables at junctions and speed cushions. These measures aim to address the issues that residents raised. We are working closely with local councillors. We are now considering what kind of alternative scheme is possible. This is based on what people told us about the trial, and on data that showed its effect. Once we have a revised scheme proposal, the next step will be to seek funding. We are exploring all possible sources. There is currently no funding allocated to deliver an alternative scheme.

The two filters are due to be in place until October to enable the legal processes to take place and objections to be made. These measures can be kept in place up until the Order ends on 14 February 2025.

Whatever we move forward with, pending funding, we will keep residents informed. We will seek their feedback on how the measures are working once they are in place.
