World class infrastructure and connectivity to drive growth
Connectivity goes beyond transport and digital. We have strong global links. It is shared values that define these relationships, long term partnership and desire to make things happen. We'll build on these relationships to expand trade, open up new investment opportunities and encourage knowledge sharing. We have many typical post-industrial features, but with the innovation, ambition and ability to turn them round through new approaches. And we can sell these ideas to the world.
As a city we will:
- Position Manchester at the heart of first class transport networks – locally, nationally and internationally
- Reflect the city's changing shape and how people need to move around in infrastructure investment decisions
- Use devolution for maximum benefit, controlling transport integration so people can get to jobs being created here
- Use HS2's momentum to drive growth and investment and strengthen the case for improved east-west links
- Capitalise on increased airport capacity and connectivity and logistics benefits of Airport City to boost the economy.
Measures of success:
- More people walking, cycling and using public transport
- More bus use
- Value of economic growth related to HS2/3 rail improvements
- More long haul scheduled flight destinations
- More of the population with access to the internet
- Business access to superfast broadband.
- Improved capacity on inter-city rail journeys
