Thriving and sustainable
Supporting a diverse, distinctive economy creating jobs and opportunities
In the coming decade we will build on our strengths. But we'll be flexible and adapt to change, responding to changing markets and seizing emerging opportunities.
As a city we will:
- Create conditions for established and emerging business sectors to grow
- Chart a course to become a leading digital city
- Capitalise on the commercial potential of research and innovation – particularly in Advanced Materials and in key employment areas like The Corridor and Airport City
- Up-skill the workforce to ensure Mancunians benefit from jobs created
- Maximise the potential of the Business Growth Hub to support Manchester businesses and entrepreneurs
- Improve the resource efficiency, carbon and environmental performance of all types of business.
Measures of success:
- Significantly more jobs in the city
- Fewer on out-of-work benefits
- Growth in economic output
- Increase in productivity
- More floorspace to meet the needs of key sectors
- Commercialisation of graphene and associated technologies
- Reduce carbon emissions per £million of GVA*
*Gross Value Added: value of goods and services produced.
