Co-op Regeneration Framework 2010

On 22 December, Manchester City Council endorsed in principle a new Regeneration Framework for the Co-operative Estate. The Executive Committee requested the Chief Executive to undertake a Public Consultation on the Co-op Regeneration Framework, and report the outcome to the Executive Committee.
This public consultation has taken place (closing date was 1st February 2011), but the document is still available for you to download.
Summary: Co-operative Group Manchester Regeneration Framework Update
In May 2009, Manchester City Council ratified a Regeneration Initiative for the 20 acres of land surrounding the Co-operative Group's Head offices in the City Centre. The Initiative identified the principles that would drive this unique strategy, and the values that would guide this investment to bring benefits to the city and set a new benchmark in socially aware, environmentally sensitive, but commercially led development.
Since then, significant progress has been made, work has already started on The Co-operative Group's new Head Office and a series of other projects are progressing, which will lay the foundations for the transformation of the area into a new high quality city centre district.
While the site has particular advantages, given its proximity to the core of the city centre, major public transport hubs and the high quality architecture of much of the Co-operative Group's existing buildings, strategic investments are still needed to help the area realise its potential. Improvements to the road network, a new renewable energy centre, updating utilities networks across the site and creating new public spaces are all crucial to achieving the vision.
This report updates how The Co-operative Group, in partnership with Manchester City Council, is working to achieve these and other key projects and to set out a longer term strategy for the whole area. The emphasis is on making a new place for Manchester, generating new job opportunities and reconnecting local communities in the north of the city, so that they can fully benefit from the opportunities this project will create.
Guided by a consistent set of values and principles, this initiative will deliver an estimated £1 billion worth of investment over 10-15 years. Co-op Regeneration Framework outlines the work done to date and the path to achieving that final goal.
