Our social value policy
One of the main ways we use our influence to drive social value is when we give contracts for goods and services.
Social value is an important factor when we choose a contract or contractor. We want social value that brings real change to the lives of our residents and communities.
Our social value policy is our commitment to:
- encourage a wide range of suppliers to work with us – including small, medium and third sector
- encourage suppliers to use local, values-led businesses – keeping money in the Manchester economy
- promote fair employment practices
- promote ethical sourcing – fair trade and pricing, UK and international standards, and tackling corruption, child labour and modern slavery
- create new jobs, apprenticeships and skills opportunities for our residents
- help unemployed people living in Manchester to find work quickly
- tackle health and social inequality in the city
- promote environmental sustainability – helping Manchester to be a zero-carbon city
- focus on local charities – We Love MCR, Young Manchester and Real Change MCR.
