Winterwise

Winterwise is a guide to keeping well during the winter. Created by The Greater Manchester Ageing Hub and Independent Age, it has three key themes:

  • Stay warm: financial support older people can get to help with energy costs
  • Stay safe: home safety advice for older people (such as fire safety, how to spot and report scams and what to do if you fall)
  • Stay well: tips and advice on mental health and wellbeing, eating well and keeping active

You can access the Winterwise guide online. Or call 0800 319 6789 (quote 'free guide 338').

The NHS website has health and wellbeing advice about how to stay well in winter.

Manchester care and repair

Manchester care and repair is a charity that helps to maintain homes for older people. And they help people to get the support they need in later life or after an illness. They also help with emergency home repairs (such as no heating). If you're over 60 or get benefits, find out if they can help. Go to www.careandrepair-manchester.org.uk.

Priority Service Register

Your energy supplier has a Priority Service Register. Joining their register means you’ll get extra help when you need it. It could be all the time, or for a short period due to something that’s happened in your life. Go to the Ofgem website to join your supplier's priority service register.

Vulnerability Registration Service

A free service that provides vulnerable people with a way to share their information with organistions like lenders and creditors. So you don't have to repeat the same difficult conversations every time you contact companies. Go to www.vulnerabilityregistrationsrevice.co.uk
