Red Bank
The Red Bank neighbourhood sits next to the River Irk – north of Victoria Station. It's on the north side of the river and covers the site of former railway sidings. An underused part of the city will transform with a new residential development. Centred around Dantzic Street, the development will continue south of the river. The active railway lines will form the southern boundary.
Red Bank has a desirable riverside setting and unique industrial heritage. It’s a great location for a well-connected residential neighbourhood. It will extend the city centre – providing new, attractive green spaces. There’ll be 5,500 new low-carbon homes, new public spaces and amenities.
Several businesses have made their home at Red Bank – drawing more visitors to this end of the city. And it neighbours residential communities in the Green Quarter, Angel Meadow and Collyhurst.

Infrastructure works
Infrastructure work involves getting land ready for its new use. The project secured £51.6m from the government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund for this work. It will bring over 25 acres of brownfield land back into use.
The work starts with the removal of invasive species. This will create a welcoming environment for walking and cycling. And it will act as a catalyst to clean the River Irk.
New homes
Over 5,500 new homes will be built at Red Bank over the next 15 years. There’ll be a range of property types and tenures. Planning permission has been granted for 4,800 homes. Of these, 1,550 have detailed consent and 3,250 have outline consent.
The Far East Consortium have started work on the Victoria Riverside scheme. It will deliver 634 homes, including 128 affordable homes. Phase 1 will be complete in 2024 and phase 2 in early 2025.
