We consulted on this scheme in January and February. Now, we are moving to the next stage: a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO). This is a legal process. People can formally comment, and any objections must be considered.
In the consultation, most people who responded were in favour of the proposals. We received nearly 350 responses. Most were very positive about the Copson Street and Rutherford Place proposals.

You said, we've done - changes made to proposals for Copson Street
We are reversing the one-way along Copson Street. It currently runs east to west but will instead run west to east. This change will reduce the risk of it being used as a cut-through. Reversing the current one-way will improve safety. It will help pedestrians and cyclists. It will do so by giving motorists better visibility. It will also stop drivers from using Copson Street as a rat-run. Drivers use it to avoid waiting in line at the signal-controlled junction at Wilmslow Road, Burton Road, and Palatine Road.
In the survey, some people asked if Copson Street could be just for pedestrians. But this is not possible because Surcon House needs access.
Some people also asked if all Copson Street could be included. The budget for this project does not allow more work than planned. But this may be possible in the future if we find funding.

Following the consultation, the design has been changed. Now, Davenport Avenue is one way toward Wilmslow Road. Davenport Avenue is narrow with on-street parking. There would be little space for vehicles to turn around if it was closed at the junction with Wilmslow Road. Making it one way toward Wilmslow Road will deter non-local traffic.
Traffic flow has also changed on Wellington Road and Rippingham Road. Wellington is one way southbound and Rippingham is one way northbound. This change allows local traffic to flow more freely. The positioning of trees and furniture has also changed. This makes the space more accessible and flexible, with room for events and overflow.
You can download the updated designs or they can be viewed in Withington Library, along with the TRO legal documents.
It will be advertised in the Manchester Evening News, and on lighting columns in the area.
Comments on the scheme can be made by emailing withington.village@manchester.gov.uk
We thank you for your feedback. We will tell you the outcome of the TRO process in the summer.
