Consultations and surveys Grey Mare Lane consultation

We have a new masterplan for the Grey Mare Lane estate. And it's ready for your feedback.

You can help guide the regeneration plans for the area. You'll shape the future of the estate so it meets the needs of people who live here – now and in the future – and we're committed to increasing the number of affordable homes in the city.

We want to create an improved neighbourhood that puts community first. We must think about the different types of housing needed and sustainability. As well as future needs and how we create growth that benefits our residents.

The project has grown to include the former police station site and a wider area at the southern end of the estate. The number of partners working on the project has grown too. Great Places and This City will be building homes, as well as One Manchester.

The new masterplan also looks at ways to improve roads and green spaces. And it identifies future development plots for more affordable housing.

Our proposals include:

  • Opportunities to develop up to 1,000 new homes (including affordable homes)
  • Upgrades to streets with new lighting, walking routes and trees
  • A new cycle lane and sustainable drainage system on Grey Mare Lane
  • A new school street or play street between the East Manchester Academy and St Brigid’s School – to promote safe streets for children
  • A new heart and focal point in the estate with better shops and community and health services
  • Improved green space with play equipment for children of all ages
  • Reducing the number of lanes at the junction between Bell Crescent and Alan Turing Way
  • New access routes onto Grey Mare Lane from Newcombe Close and Raglan Close

Let us know what you think using the web form.

The survey will close on 22 July 2024.

We're hosting a drop-in event so you can see our plans. It's on 15 July from 2.30pm to 6.30pm at The Grange (4 Pilgrim Drive, Beswick, Manchester M11 3TQ).

Please note that all proposals depend on funding and will be completed in stages.
