Proposed plans

Area 1

The proposed changes to the A34 Bridge Street West to Dolefield are :

  • New wider footways on both sides and reduction of carriageway width
  • Ramped sideroads to slow turning traffic from Bridge Street into Dolefield, and to the entrance and exits of the Bridge Street carpark
  • New controlled crossings at the junction of Gartside Street and Bridge Street West, and across Bridge Street West, to the east of Dolefield

Area 2

The proposed changes to the A34 St Mary’s Parsonage to Deansgate are:

  • New wider footway along northern side and part of south side
  • Ramped sideroad to slow turning traffic at the junction of Southgate and Bridge Street
  • New controlled crossings at the junction of St Mary’s Parsonage and Bridge Street, and at the junction of Bridge Street/ Deansgate/ John Dalton Street
  • Loading bays on Bridge Street and Southgate

Area 3

The proposed changes to the A34 Deansgate to Bow Street are:

  • New controlled crossings at the junction of St Mary’s Parsonage and Bridge Street, and at the junction of Bridge Street/ Deansgate/ John Dalton Street
  • New wider footway on north side to the east of the junction with Ridgefield, and on the south side to the west of the junction with Ridgefield
  • Ramped sideroads to slow turning traffic at the junctions of Ridgefield (north and south side) with John Dalton Street, and Bow Street with John Dalton Street
  • Loading bays on John Dalton Street.

Area 4

The proposed changes to the A34 Bow Street to Clarence Street are:

  • Controlled pedestrian crossings on John Dalton Street at the junction with Cross Street, Cross Street (south of Bow Lane), and Princess Street (between Cross Street and Clarence Street)
  • New wider footways on south side
  • Ramped sideroad to slow turning traffic at the junction of Four Yards with John Dalton Street
  • Shared loading bays on John Dalton Street and St James’ Square.

Area 5

The proposed changes to the A34 Clarence Street to Cooper Street are:

  • Controlled pedestrian crossings on Princess Street (between Cross Street and Clarence Street)
  • A street clutter review will be carried out on existing footways
  • Ramped sideroad to slow turning traffic at the junction of Bow Lane and Princess Street
