Consultations and surveys Anti-poverty strategy

Preventing poverty

The priorities in this theme are about the action that we can take to prevent residents from experiencing poverty.

Identify residents at risk of poverty and connect them to help and support

We will make sure people who are at risk of experiencing poverty are able to get the right support at the right time. We will do this by targeting information, upskilling professionals, and using data to better understand how organisations can support residents.

Help residents on low incomes to manage their household expenditure and reduce debt

We will help households to reduce their energy bills by using energy efficiency measures. We will promote affordable credit and increase affordable childcare options.

Avoid taking action that will push residents into poverty or debt

We will review Manchester City Council’s approach to debt recovery. We will work with residents to agree affordable and sustainable Council Tax payment plans.
