Consultations and surveys Wythenshawe Active Travel Scheme consultation

This consultation has now closed. Due to strong feedback from local residents, this consultation has been ended early while we review the proposals for new walking and cycling routes in Wythenshawe.

Manchester City Council has been awarded Active Travel Fund money, to encourage more walking and cycling in Wythenshawe.

A consultation was held last year about this, where we asked for suggestions about where improvements could be made which would make people more likely to cycle and walk in the area. We got a lot of useful feedback, but the criteria for what we can spend the Active Travel Fund money on is quite specific, so we have decided to focus on measures which would reduce through-traffic in the area bounded by Altrincham Road to the north, M56 to the east, Hollyhedge Road to the south and Roundthorn Road to the West. We chose this area because we think removing traffic makes it easier and more attractive for people to cycle and walk for local journeys.

The benefits of the improvements would include:

  • It provides a safer route, especially for shorter journeys
  • It encourages more people to walk and cycle
  • It provides better connection between local places where people want to go
  • It reduces negative impacts of motor traffic on local communities
