The area on Ryebank Road is owned by Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).
The university would like to sell this site, which they haven’t used for a long time, so that it can be used for much needed new homes in Chorlton.
Their ambition is to enhance Chorlton by transforming the site into a high quality residential area bringing much-needed new homes and an environment normally found in areas further south in the city. The draft proposals known as a ‘Development Framework’ sets out the aims to achieve this ambition. It is proposed that the site will provide great new places to live and a high quality of life that benefits new and existing residents.
MMU have set out their own goals and aims for Ryebank Road in their ‘draft development framework’. They propose:
- large suburban housing including a mix of around 70 detached and semi-detached houses with gardens and car parking
- an area that is planned and designed to be in keeping with the surrounding area
- further green ‘infrastructure’ which will be extended into the site from Longford Park
- re-use of the existing access off Longford Road as the main entrance to the site for vehicles, with Ryebank Road to the north for pedestrian and cycle access.
After this consultation a final Development Framework will be produced for the Council’s Executive Committee to consider.
