Help with fuel

If you're struggling to pay your fuel bills or are at risk of being disconnected, you may be able to get a grant. It's paid to your pre-paid meter card. If you have had a grant in the last 12 months, you cannot apply again. Find out if you qualify for help with fuel.

Warm Home Discount

If you're on a low income, you may qualify for a one-off discount on your electricity costs. Find out if you qualify on the Government website. Go to www.gov.uk/the-warm-home-discount-scheme.

Winter Fuel Payment

If you were born before 6 January 1952, you could get a tax-free sum to help pay your heating bills. Find out if you qualify on the Government website. Go to www.gov.uk/winter-fuel-payment.

Cold Weather Payments

If you get certain benefits, you can apply for a cold weather payment if it's very cold. The temperature has to be (or forecast to be) at or below freezing for seven days. It must be seven consecutive days. You can apply on the Government website at www.gov.uk/cold-weather-payment.

Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP)

The Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP) helps people at risk of going into fuel poverty. They help all types of households (homeowners, private renters and social housing tenants). Find out how they can help you at www.applyforleap.org.uk.

National Energy Action (NEA)

National Energy Action (NEA) help people struggling to pay their energy bills. Find out what help they can give you at www.nea.org.uk/get-help.

Priority Service Register

Your energy supplier has a Priority Service Register. Joining their register means you’ll get extra help when you need it. It could be all the time, or for a short period due to something that’s happened in your life. Go to the Ofgem website to join your supplier's priority service register.

Citizens Advice

A gas or electricity supplier can cut you off if you don't pay your bill. If you're struggling to pay, contact them straight away. They can agree a repayment plan. The Citizens Advice website has a lot of information about energy.
