Homes and property Help with Empty homes

How can Manchester City Council help with my empty property?

Owners of empty properties have several ways to reuse them.

Sell the property – You can choose to sell your property to a private buyer. Or, you may wish to sell your empty home to investors who can renovate and bring the property back into use. If interested, Manchester City Council may help via our investors register.

Email our Empty Homes Team at emptyhomesteam@manchester.gov.uk to provide the info below. A team member will contact you.

  • contact name

  • full address of the empty property

  • phone number

  • email address

  • confirm that you wish to be contacted by the Empty Homes Team about the investors register.

Rent the property – You may choose to rent the property to a tenant. Our Private Rented Sector team can help landlords find tenants. There are also several incentives for landlords who work with us.

If you want to be a landlord and need more info on managing a property, landlord accreditation, tax, licensing, and energy efficiency, please visit Private Landlords Information.

Lease the property to Manchester City Council - If you prefer not to sell, we may be able to lease it from you for a set time. This would give you steady revenue from the property and you'd avoid the hassle of marketing and managing tenants.

For more information regarding any of the above please email emptyhomesteam@manchester.gov.uk advising which schemes you would like to discuss.
