  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Nature and Biodiversity

    • Give financial help to grow local projects. This includes a minimum of: 
      • three new alleyway greening projects and 
      • two existing alleyway projects.
    • Create an alleyway showcase video with other Central wards. Use it to show how alleyways can become great green spaces. This will help increase interest in neighbourhood greening projects.
    • Over the year, help the Bee Sanctuary Movement to deliver a greening project along the A6. The aim is to get businesses to engage in greening and planting.
    • Support the community to submit a Levenshulme In Bloom nomination in summer 2024.

    Children and Young People

    • Ensure there's at least two School Street Events in Levenshulme over the year.
    • Create a Levy Nature Art Trail Tour. Carry out at least three tours with primary schools from Levenshulme.
    • Work with our Education team to support all Green School Network events. Encourage all schools in the ward to be involved. Help schools to write their Climate Change Action Plans.

    Transport, active travel, air quality

    • Over the year, work with local community groups to organise at least one event focused on clean air.
    • Help make Manchester's year as the European Captial of Cycling a success. Support at least two events or projects focused on active travel over the year.

    Things we buy, use and bin

    • Ensure Biffa or other waste partners are at every event hosted throughout the year. This is so they can engage with at least 50 residents on waste and recycling.
    • Get at least five new Levenshulme businesses to sign up to the Refill app as water refill stations. 
    • Support at least one project focused on sustainable fashion by the end of the year. Use the Use Neighbourhood Investment Fund (NIF) to do it.
    • Ensure at least two groups in Levenshulme use Recycle for Greater Manchester's free compost scheme.

    Food

    • Give at least £1,000 of NIF funding to things focused on food growing or sustainable food choices.
    • Ensure that all food options at every event we organise are vegetarian or vegan. And where possible, to have no single use plastics. 
    • Work with Biffa to hand out at least 25 new food caddies or recycle split bags to households in Levenshulme.

     Homes and energy efficiency

    • Hand out at least 100 LED lightbulbs to Hulme residents. Use this to discuss energy efficiency at home and how that links to climate change.
    • Promote details of retrofit schemes during at least two events over the year. Work with the Zero Carbon Housing team and partners such as Carbon Coop to do this.

    Engagement Awareness Raising

    • Over the year, deliver at least one Fresk sessions to residents and or community groups
    • Host a climate change/carbon footprint stall at three or more events over the year. Engage at least 50 people.
