Ward-specific objectives
Nature and Biodiversity:
- Find two places for projects to help nature in Miles Platting and Newton Heath by autumn 2025.
- Run two planting days in Newton Heath Peace Gardens with local groups by autumn 2025.
Young people:
- Give at least two eco-themed school assemblies by July 2025.
- Do at least two litter picks with a school or local group during Great British Spring Clean 2024.
- Sign up at least one new school to the eco-school's program by the end of July 2025.
Transport, active travel, air quality:
- Host a climate info stand or other activity at all road closure events.
- Run two cycling events (for example, guided rides) by Easter 2025.
Things we buy, use and throw away:
- Organise at least one community upcycling workshop during National Recycling Week 2024.
- Pilot the Refill (reducing single-use plastics use) campaign in Miles Platting and Newton Heath. Sign up at least 10 new businesses by end of 2024.
Food:
- Run one low-cost, low-carbon cooking class by end of 2025.
- Fix and improve raised plant beds in Brookdale Park by end of 2025.
- Give out 100 veggie pizza kits in Miles Platting and Newton Heath by January 2025.
Homes and energy efficiency:
- Offer energy advice at all ward community events.
- Promote home retrofit schemes. These are schemes that upgrade homes to reduce energy use.
Engagement, Raising Awareness, and Influencing Change:
- Use the Neighbourhood Investment Fund to support two community climate projects each year.
- Include one climate item in each MP&NH Community Newspaper.
