Ward-specific objectives
Nature and Biodiversity:
- Identify one area in the ward to improve biodiversity by the end of 2025.
- Identify one location in Ancoats and Beswick to host a community fruit orchard by end of Autumn 2025.
Children and Young People:
- Lead and deliver at least one climate change workshop to young people/school group by July 2025.
- Deliver at least one climate change assembly to an Ancoats and Beswick school by July 2025.
- Sign up at least one new school to the Eco Schools program in the ward by the end of July 2025.
Transport, active travel, air quality:
- Fit two age-friendly benches. Map all benches in the ward by summer 2025. This will help encourage older residents to walk more.
- Hold at least one yearly community road closure event with a climate change stall.
Things we buy, use and throw away:
- Pilot the Refill (reducing single-use plastics use) campaign in Ancoats and Beswick. Sign up at least 15 new businesses by end of 2024.
- Support and deliver at least one community clothes swap event by the end of Easter 2025.
- Run a short sewing course to teach residents how to repair and upcycle clothes by the end of spring 2025.
Food:
- Hold at least one cooking class on cheap, eco-friendly slow cooker meals by end of 2024.
- Create 200 vegetarian soup making kits and send them out by the end of 2025.
Homes and energy efficiency:
- Give out 200 winter warmer/energy saving kits by the end of 2025.
- Invite debt advice and energy advice partners to all our events in the ward.
Engagement, Raising Awareness, and Influencing Change:
- Use the Neighbourhood Investment Fund to support two community climate projects each year.
- Give climate change information info and advice in every issue of the Step Up newsletter.
