  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Nature and biodiversity:

    • To provide financial support for a minimum of three new alleyway greening projects and a minimum of two existing alleyway projects to expand.
    • Organise and showcase a “Levy Alleyway Tour” - providing inspiration to others and encourage sustainability by the end of the year.
    • Use allocated Local Investment Fund (LIF) and social value contributions to organise a tidy up day at Village Green before the end of 2023 where the area will be improved with Nature-related wall art, new bee friendly plants and refresh of existing planters.

    Young people:

    • Ensure a minimum of two school or parent-led School Street Events in Levenshulme over the year
    • Create a Levy Nature Art Trail Tour and carry out a minimum of three tours with Primary Schools from Levenshulme.
    • Organise a minimum of one Active Streets Event in Levenshulme.
    • Help residents to apply and run at least three Play Street events in Levenshulme over the year
    • Promote the Green Schools Network to any Levenshulme schools that are not already engaged with it

    Transport, active travel, air quality:

    • Organise one Clean Air Day Event in June 2023.
    • Establish a Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) Bike Library at Arcadia Library.
    • Collaborate with MCR Active to create an interactive map of the Art Trail that encourages an appreciation of local nature and active travel.
    • Promote existing Levy active travel infrastructure such as Station South and Fallowfield Loop using social media channels

    Things we buy, use and bin:

    • Invite Biffa and/or Keep Manchester Tidy to every event hosted over the year.
    • Get at least ten Levenshulme businesses signed up to as Refill locations on the Refill app.
    • Work with Rosgal Ltd to provide funding for the Levenshulme School Uniform project.
    • Ensure at least one group in Levenshulme utilise the Recycle 4 Greater Manchester (R4GM) free compost scheme

    Food:

    • Allocate at least £1,000 of Neighbourhood Investment Funding to groups in Levenshulme that want to grow food
    • Food recycling to be promoted with residents especially in areas of fly tipping by giving out at least 10 food caddies to residents.
    • By the end of the year complete the hanging basket project on Damien Street to promote food growing.

    Homes and energy efficiency:

    • Promote energy efficiency at all community events and issue over 100 LED lightbulbs at these events.
    • Work with Carbon Co-op so they can successfully deliver their retrofitting project on and around Cuthbert Avenue.

    Engagement, raising awareness, influencing change:

    • Organise a Climate Fresk workshop with established climate groups in Levenshulme - use the 'Ardwick Levy Long' VCSE group to promote this
    • Host a climate change/Carbon Footprint information stall at a minimum of three events over the year

  2. Who else is involved, and what they're doing

    Repair café at Levenshulme:

    Inspire Repair café hosted once a month at Inspire. Repair Cafes are a prime example of reusing and repairing instead of throwing and buying. Find out more on the Repair Cafe Facebook page.

     

    Bee Sanctuary Movement - Highfield Park:

    Bee Sanctuary is a group of volunteers who work on protecting and enhancing Highfields Park. They organise volunteer days, litter picks and community events. Find out more online at The Bee Sanctuary Movement.

     

    Station South:

    New cycling and active travel hub hosts and organises events throughout the year to break down the barriers that might hold people back from cycling and wheeling. Climate change events are also hosted throughout the year while the outside space is utilised as a community garden. Find out more online at Station South.

     

    People Powered Retrofit (PPP) / Carbon Co-op:

    PPP have successfully applied for government funding to run an innovative project piloting a new approach to providing local in-person energy advice. The project covers Moss Side, Whalley Range and Levenshulme and will starts in Autumn 2023. Find out more online at localenergynw.org

     

    Friends of Cringle Park:

    This group of local residents supports community events and actively campaigns for improvements in the park. Read more on the FoCP Facebook page.

     

    Manchester Library of Things:

    A great of saving money, protecting the environment and bringing the community togethe, the Library of Things promotes borrowing instead of buying. They're helping to bring about a shift in attitudes, from overconsumption and waste to community ownership, reuse and recycling. Find out more online at McrLot.com
